Terms and Conditions.

DUELS is a skill-based competition platform where registered users compete against each other in 1v1 matches for a prize. DUELS is not a casino, does not offer games of chance, and does not require a gaming license under Danish law for the games it offers. All games on the platform are 100% skill-based with no random elements.

The platform has received a “vejledende udtalelse” (non-binding guiding statement) from Spillemyndigheden (journal 26-632347) confirming that the reviewed games are classified as skill games and fall outside the scope of the Lov om spil. As of this version the reviewed set comprises Card Duel, CycleDuel and DropDuel. Further games share the same no-chance design and are treated as skill games on the same basis, and additional games are offered only where DUELS is satisfied they meet the identical skill and no-chance standard.

Two surfaces

DUELS operates a surface where matches are played for a prize, and a surface where they are not. The sections of these terms that concern payment, prizes and entry fees apply only where money is actually involved. On a surface with no money there is no entry fee, no prize and nothing to pay.

To register and use DUELS you must:

• Be at least 18 years old
• Be legally able to enter into a contract
• Not be acting on behalf of another person

One account per person

Handles are unique and one account is one person. Creating multiple accounts to gain an advantage is a material breach of these terms and will result in account termination.

Where you can use DUELS

DUELS is offered from Denmark and is intended for users in Denmark. We do not currently restrict access by country. If territorial restrictions become necessary — for example because a payment provider requires them — we will publish the list before enforcing it, and these terms will be updated accordingly.

Registration requires a handle and a password. Depending on which surface you register on, you may also be asked for an email address.

By registering you confirm:

• The information you provide is accurate
• You meet the eligibility requirements in section 02
• You will keep your account credentials secure
• You will notify DUELS immediately of any unauthorised account access

No self-service password reset where no email is held

Where you register with a handle only and no real email address, we have no way to verify who you are if you lose your password, and no way to send you a reset link. Recovery in that case is manual and is not guaranteed. This is stated at registration as well as here.

How it works

To enter a match, each player pays an amount to DUELS for access to the match. That payment is consideration for a service. DUELS pays a cash prize to the winner after the match.

What the payment is not. It is not a deposit. It is not placed on an account. It cannot be withdrawn. It does not create a balance, a credit or a claim against DUELS for its return. From the moment it is paid it is DUELS’ own money.

What the prize is. The prize is DUELS’ own contractual obligation to the winner, paid out of DUELS’ own funds. It is not a share of a fund held on behalf of the players, because no such fund exists.

Where our own materials use the word “purse”, it names a calculation — the figure the prize is computed from — and never a sum of money held separately for players. There is no such sum.

DUELS’ share

DUELS retains a share of the two players’ combined payment. The share falls as the level rises:

The levels available to you are displayed in the platform at the time you enter a match, and the figures above may change. Where they change, the platform is authoritative and shows the amount before you commit.

Ties

Where a match ends level, the prize is divided equally between both players after DUELS’ share.

Equal payment only

All matches use equal payment by both players. Asymmetric arrangements, where players pay different amounts for the same prize, are not offered. They depart from the equal-payment structure the Spillemyndigheden guiding statement reviewed, and they require specific legal review before they could ever be offered.

Annual statement

For each income year, DUELS makes available to each player a statement of all prizes received and all match payments made on the platform during that year. Every match, amount and time is recorded automatically.

Result screen

After each match the result screen shows the prize, the amount paid, and the net gain or loss. The server record is the authoritative record of the outcome.

Where you stand if DUELS cannot pay

Because the prize is DUELS’ own obligation rather than a share of a fund held for players, your claim to a prize is a claim against the business itself. No money is ring-fenced in your name, and there is no separate account holding it on your behalf. If DUELS were unable to meet its obligations, an unpaid prize would rank as an ordinary unsecured claim against the business alongside its other creditors. We state this because it is a real difference from an arrangement where funds are held separately, and you are entitled to know which one you are in before you pay.

When a payment path goes live, it will follow the structure in section 04:

• No customer funds are held. DUELS operates no wallet, no player account and no client funds account. There is nothing to deposit into and nothing to withdraw from.
• Payment is taken at the point you enter a match, as consideration for that match.
• Prizes are paid out by DUELS as its own obligation, by a method published at the time.
• All amounts are in Danish Krone (DKK).

The specific payment method, provider and payout timing will be published in an updated version of these terms before any payment is accepted. No provider is named here because none is signed.

Prohibited conduct

The following are strictly prohibited:

• Use of automated tools, bots or scripts during matches
• Collusion with an opponent to manipulate match outcomes
• Account sharing or playing on behalf of another person
• Any form of match-fixing or deliberate underperformance for gain
• Exploiting platform bugs or vulnerabilities for advantage

Detection

DUELS renders game state server-side, so no client can read or alter another player’s position. We analyse move timing and statistical performance across matches to detect prohibited conduct.

Enforcement

Reclaiming a prize

A prize obtained through prohibited conduct may be reclaimed by DUELS whether or not it has been paid out. This right survives account termination.

Legal basis

Obtaining financial gain through deception on DUELS constitutes bedrageri under §279 of the Danish Criminal Code (straffeloven). DUELS will pursue criminal referral in confirmed cases.

A player may forfeit a match at any time. Forfeiting awards the prize to the opponent, after DUELS’ share. Forfeiting does not entitle the forfeiting player to a refund.

Match outcomes are determined by the server-side game state. The server record is authoritative. Disputes regarding match outcomes must be submitted to info@duels.dk within 48 hours of the match ending.

DUELS does not mediate disputes arising from differences in player skill, from lag on the player’s own connection, or from outcomes consistent with the server record.

DUELS is a skill competition platform, not a gambling service. We take responsible use seriously.

What exists today: you can close your account at any time, which anonymises it — see the Privacy Policy. If you tell us you have a problem, we will suspend your account on request.

What does not exist yet, and is not claimed to: self-exclusion registers, spending limits, cool-off periods and session limits are not implemented. What is intended when a payment path goes live is set out in the DUELS Responsible Play and Self-Exclusion Policy, available on request. These terms will be updated when those controls exist, and this paragraph will say so rather than the reverse.

DUELS holds no licence that would give it access to ROFUS, and does not check it.

DUELS processes personal data in accordance with the GDPR and Danish data protection law. Full details are in the Privacy Policy.

Key points:

• We collect a handle, credentials, match data and technical data. We do not collect a CPR number, a legal name or payment card details.
• Match data — moves, timing, outcomes — is retained for anti-cheat monitoring and dispute resolution.
• No personal data is sold to third parties.
• Retention: 5 years for bookkeeping records (Bogføringsloven §10), 2 years for match logs.
• Closing your account anonymises it; records the law requires us to keep are retained without identifying you.

DUELS does not guarantee uninterrupted availability. Scheduled maintenance will be communicated in advance where possible. DUELS is not liable for losses arising from platform downtime, provided that any amount paid for an interrupted match is refunded.

DUELS’ liability to any user is limited to the amount that user paid for the relevant match. DUELS is not liable for indirect, consequential or speculative losses. Nothing in these terms limits DUELS’ liability for fraud or gross negligence.

DUELS may terminate an account immediately for:

• Breach of these terms
• Confirmed prohibited conduct (section 06)
• Fraudulent activity

Users may close their account at any time via account settings. A match in progress must be completed or forfeited first. Closing an account anonymises it rather than erasing it — see section 10 and the Privacy Policy.

DUELS may update these terms. Material changes will be notified on the platform, and by email where we hold one, with at least 14 days notice. Continued use of the platform after the notice period constitutes acceptance.

These terms are governed by Danish law. Any disputes arising from these terms or from use of the platform are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Danish courts, with Copenhagen as the agreed venue.

These terms are issued in English, and the English version governs. Where a Danish translation is published, it is provided for convenience unless this clause is changed to say otherwise.
